Maude's Dilemma is a 2-part episode from 1972. It's funny to read the history of this story and see the objections to it coming from religious -not political- circles. How we ever let a women's health issue become a political one is beyond me. Don't kid yourself. This isn't about "life" but about control and imposing religious beliefs. If your religion has certain requirements I suggest you abide by them, and if it has certain beliefs it requires of you then I suggest you believe them. I object to you requiring them of me.
...Maude was a hoot.
ReplyDeleteShe spoke her mind, didn't she!
DeleteI remember this series. Vaguely, but I do remember it. Sometimes it's fun to watch these old shows and look at all the changes that have happened to TV and to things like clothing styles and home styles and even other issues.
ReplyDeleteI didn't see it back in the day. We had one TV, and Mother and Daddy picked the shows lol
DeleteY'know, I bet Adam ate the apple first and then blamed Eve. And Eve has been blamed for everything ever since.
ReplyDeleteThis whole situation makes me doubt women will ever be seen as people. We can't even get the Equal Rights Amendment passed :(
DeleteVery good. The fight will go on until we get greedy, white, men and the women who are under their thumbs out of office.
ReplyDeleteThe Senate is a hopeless case :(
DeleteIf I remember right one of the adages doctors follow is first do no harm.
ReplyDeleteTrue.
DeleteEvery day I watch the news and get even more discouraged that we as women will ever have equal rights or even rights over our own bodies again. It will make it so much more important to vote this year. We can't get rid of Scrotum, oops I mean SCOTUS, but we can get rid of the good old boy network that is supporting and lifting up SCOTUS's decisions. I really MUST get off my soapbox about this issue that bothers me so much.
ReplyDeleteIf we aren't loud about our rights who else will be ? :(
DeleteCan´t believe this comes up again in these times and in so-called civilized countries.
ReplyDeleteI wasn´t planned, either, yet my parents both by "free will" decided to get me, whilst many women went to Denmark for an abortion (I was born early 1972).
We thought it was settled. We were wrong :(
DeleteI remember Maude's Dilemma episodes. Such an uproar. All In The Family created a lot of uproar also many times, too. If these shows weren't so very popular Norman Lear wouldn't have been able to alter perspectives as much as he did. Money usually talks louder than religion. Right now the crazy talk of the politicians...well, it makes them money. Money is talking louder than sanity.
ReplyDeleteIt's such a mess :(
DeleteThis must have been groundbreaking at the time it was released, who'd have thought it would still apply today - shocking! What is the world coming too! Hugs Jo x
ReplyDeleteThey took the legal option for granted where they were then. I guess folks in New York may be ok, but people here in TN are in trouble :(
DeleteI remember when this was on and the controversy it caused. It was very good.
ReplyDeleteYes, I thought it was well-handled.
