Shin Godzilla is a 2016 monster movie, which drew inspiration from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster and the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami. I watched it at Internet Archive:
Roger Ebert's site calls it "winningly optimistic" and "pleasurably eccentric". Rotten Tomatoes has a critics concensus score of 86%, meaning 86% of all the critics who reviewed it liked it.

...I've never been into Godzilla.
ReplyDeleteWe're big fans from way back.
DeleteWinningly optimistic is not a term I associate with Godzilla, which makes me curious!
ReplyDeleteYes, it's not intuitively apt, is it lol
DeleteThe nuclear disaster and the earthquake really effected Japan. When I went in 2018, people were still talking about it, and one of the areas we visited was made up of lots of people who moved there after this event. They were starting over, but doing a wonderful job of it. I can see why as a culture there is a lot of ghosts to be reckoned with, and a Godzilla film is probably a great way to deal with it all.
ReplyDeleteFrom Godzilla's very beginnings. It puts watching them in a whole new light.
DeleteI like movies that are inspired by real world disasters.
ReplyDeleteThe original Godzilla (Gojira) is such a prime example, and it's good to see them adapting him to modern-day disasters.
DeleteDespite the praise, I think I'll pass on this one.
ReplyDeleteI can't pass up Godzilla ;)
DeleteIt must´ve been so darn scary. It was on TV, certainly. But when we were in Darwin, Australia, in the museum there was a pitch dark room where you could hear original recordings of cyclone Tracy - I got SO scared, if it hadn´t been for Ingo I could cling to I would´ve dashed to find the door out.
ReplyDeleteYikes! That _would_ be scary!
DeleteGodzilla - sounds like fun 😀. I hope you've had a lovely week and wishing you a happy Friday! Hugs Jo x
ReplyDeleteIt was fun :) Thanks!
