  7. I'm a big fan of Kurosawa. His autobiography is very fascinating, as are many films made throughout his long life. The University of Michigan (in our town) used to have a Japanese film festival twice a year, and we learned a great deal about the Japanese film industry including many great directors, authors, animators, and actors.
