Cairo Station

Cairo Station is a 1958 Egyptian drama film. It's available on Netflix.

The Guardian calls it "an unmissable film". Time Out concludes, "It's a strikingly controlled, confident, bitingly effective display, which leaves you wondering where this film has been all our lives." Empire Online says it "tackles heavy themes of modern life."

BBC closes with this:
With its tense score, contrasting performances of Chahine (twitchy and tightly coiled) and Rostom (sexy but cruel) and audacious moments of formal brilliance (Chahine even slots in a musical be-bop interlude from "Mike and the Skyrockets"), "Cairo Station" is a cinematic triumph.
Rotten Tomatoes has a 100% score.

  4. It sounds like something I would like because I often agree with Rotten Tomatoes. Sad that I only have cable which costs more than Netflix.

    1. We got rid of cable because of the lack of options and the internet access issues. We switched to AT&T for internet, which we'd had before and hated :( It's been fine this time around, though.

    1. It was a good movie. When _all_ the critics give it a good review I take special notice :)

  7. Shoot. I wonder when in Germany you can choose in which language you want to see a movie.
    Translations are often bad.
So all you can do is try and find a bloody DVD to buy and check first if the language you wish is available!
MY Brother gave me his set of Louis de Funès-movies and by golly, my French is not good anymore, LOL. So I speak of English only...

    1. I can't even tell when translations are bad except sometimes with French when it's obvious to me they're translating the sense of the meaning and not a literal translation. It's frustrating to me to find movies that don't have English subtitles.

  8. It must be good with all the positive reviews it gets and it seems to have been banned in Egypt for 20 years, fascinating 😀. Take care! Hugs, Jo x

    1. I hadn't realized about the ban. It's interesting to see which books and movies are banned where and why. Thanks!
