The Undefeated

The Undefeated is a 1969 John Wayne immediate post-Civil War Western. Rock Hudson, Lee Meriwether, Jan-Michael Vincent, Ben Johnson, Merlin Olsen, Edward Faulkner, Harry Carey, Jr., Paul Fix, Royal Dano, Richard Mulligan, John Agar, and Dub Taylor also star. I'm not a John Wayne fan, but the rest of the cast is fun to watch.

Roger Ebert concludes,
There are good lines of Wayne dialog and good exchanges with Ben Johnson (as the cook) and some scenes in which you can see that even Wayne thinks Gabriel looks ridiculous as an Indian. And these scenes help pass the time and help you forget how wooden and uninteresting Hudson is. Which is pretty wooden and uninteresting indeed.
Emmanuel Levy calls it "One of John Wayne’s least interesting films." 65% of Rotten Tomatoes audience members liked it.

  1. ...poor old John Wayne seems to have fallen out of favor lately.

    1. I was never much of a fan. He played the same character in every film it seems to me, and I just like other actors better. It doesn't keep me from watching his films, but he's not enough to get me to watch something.

  2. I have enjoyed allot of his older films-the newer ones not so much

  3. I know it's probably blasphemy not to like John Wayne westerns, but I'll stick to my guns and not watch it! Have a nice day, Valerie

    1. Some of his movies are quite good. He's never the reason ;)

  6. Interesting you aren't a fan of John Wayne. Isn't it funny how certain performers just don't do it to some of us. I feel that way about Tom Cruise, even before he got to be such a big star. Hope it was a nice Monday!

    1. I'm not a big Tom Cruise fan, either. He's never the reason I watch a film.

    1. He never makes a movie for me, but he never ruins it either ;)

  8. I was never a John Wayne fan, either. One trick pony actor. (Sorry, but same with Clint Eastwood, who's a much better director.) But I think I did see this one. I have seen several of his just because it was the days when it was the best of few choices on TV--LOL!

    1. I've seen a lot of them just watching westerns from various time periods. I like Eastwood's westerns, but not so much his other films.
