Outward Bound is a 1930 fantasy drama starring Leslie Howard (in his first feature-length sound film) and Douglas Fairbanks Jr. This is a touching and encouraging film. I watched it online but can't find it now. It's quite frustrating when a movie like this is still under copyright and unavailable for viewing. I don't understand it.
This trailer will give you a taste:
This screenshot from the film has a drink on the table as these two share a moment:
Today is the day for the T Stands for Tuesday blogger gathering. I've been out of town for several days and am so far behind I'll never catch up, so I'm not sharing my link there. See y'all next week if not before.
Yes, it's a shame this film isn't better known, but as it's under copyright it gets taken down when it's shared freely on the internet. On the other hand it seems to be out of print. The situation is ridiculous :(
I wondered why you hadn't joined us for T day. I have this theory about my internet. It knows exactly when it's Monday at 4 pm, so it immediately goes offline. ATT said they'd send someone Tuesday morning between 8 and noon. Now I'm ALSO playing catch-up. That's a great screen capture and it's great for T Tuesday, too.
Turner owns all those films, so I can see why it may not be free to view anymore. I can look for it on TCM, which I have, but I know you don't. It looks like a lovely film, though. Thanks for sharing this even if you aren't playing along. We understand.
TCM should make it available to buy. I'd buy a DVD for The Husband if one were available. Some films that are still under copyright remain available free online for years. If they're not gonna print them I don't see the harm in it. It's not like we could buy it if we wanted to :( so us watching it free doesn't cost them a thing.
Wow, such a poignant film and dating all the way back to 1930s 😀. Shame this film is available to view easily. Looking at the plot and links though it seems this film was remade as Between The Worlds in 1944, the storyline has been changed as this one is based in World War 2 which is deemed unnecessary - maybe worth checking out. Thanks for sharing and sending you very Happy T Tuesday wishes! Hugs, Jo x
I like Leslie Howard. This is one I'd like to see. On my cable they moved TCM to the sport tier which I don't have because I will NEVER watch the sport tier. But I do miss TCM.
Because this blog does not consist of a single focus topic I chose the name Divers and Sundry where "Divers" means being of many and various kinds, and "Sundry" means consisting of a haphazard assortment of different kinds.
...copyrights can last forever!
ReplyDeleteIt feels that way :(
DeleteI just love Leslie Howard. He's another actor that was often overlooked and sadly, taken away too soon.
ReplyDeleteHe is always good.
DeleteHope you enjoy your time out of town. Love your drink reference happy T
ReplyDeleteIt was nice, thanks :)
DeleteHope you are enjoying your time away - be safe, see you on your return.
ReplyDeleteI'm safely back now, thanks :)
DeleteAnother film I don't know. But I like Leslie Howard. I should know more of Douglas Fairbanks films as his name is so big.Happy T day!

DeleteOff to look where I can view it, looks like one I would enjoy.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing.

ReplyDeleteI missed TCM when we got rid of cable. We'd've kept cable if they'd had a la carte options instead of such expensive tiers :(
