The Rowan Tree

image from Amazon.com

Several people have suggested options for free books online, and I'm exploring what seems to me to be a wealth of choices. The Rowan Tree, by Robert W. Fuller, is available free for now on Google Play, and I'm reading it on my computer. You can read it here while it's free. I found it searching for free books in the literary fiction category at BookBub.

from RowanTreeNovel.com:
Rowan Ellway is a young college president; Easter Blue, an impassioned student leader. Upon graduation, she takes a fellowship to Africa, and they lose touch. When, decades later, they meet again, they discover that their prior bond was but a rehearsal for the world stage.

The Rowan Tree reaches from the tumultuous 1960s into humanity’s future, encompassing the worlds of politics, sport, ballet, presidential leadership, and world governance. An international cast of characters personifies the catalytic role of love in political change.

Replete with illicit loves, quixotic quests, and inextinguishable hope, The Rowan Tree foretells a dignitarian world much as the story of King Arthur and the round table sowed the seeds of democracy.
It's quite the romantic, illicit affair-driven narrative and not my cup of tea. I won't seek out more by this author.

    1. The characters are interesting, and I liked how the plot was constructed. It was just the romance element that didn't suit me.

  3. At least you gave it a try and that should count for more than you might think!!!! Last night I fell on my left arm and it's too painful to use it. Typing with my right hand only, so keeping things short.

    1. Nobody will eat it but me, I don't think, but I still may try it. I'd never heard of using cranberry sauce in a pie.

  7. I've been passing on romance for quite a while, in books and in movies. Thanks for the heads up. I'll pass, too. :)

    1. It's not primarily romance, I don't guess, but the plot seemed driven by the romance elements. Maybe I'm just overly sensitive to it...

  8. I went off on a tangent when I read the comments about cranberry pie recipes.

Have you seen this recipe? It sounds good, and easy to make, so I'm thinking of giving it a try this Thanksgiving:

  9. It's been driving me crazy that I've heard The Rown Tree before, but not this book. I finally put it together, it's from one of my British mystery shows, a child that was abducted & killed the woman planted a Rowan tree over his grave ... now my self mystery is solved. The Rowan Tree has quite a history in mythology.
