The Little Prince

The Little Prince is a 1943 book, which I read in French back in the days when I knew some French. I have read it several times in the English translation. This book is a treasure, and I'd recommend it to anyone of any age. You can read it online here.

I've seen two of the many adaptations. The 1974 version is a musical starring Gene Wilder as the Fox. I saw it when it was first released to theaters and love it dearly even now.

Here's a trailer:

I recently watched the 2015 adaptation on Netflix. It's quite different, being an animation, but every bit as delightful.

  1. I love this story. I've read it in French, German, and many times in English. I don't remember the 1974 film adaptation, but I did see the one from 2015. Rather wish they had just told the story as it was.

    1. Yes, I completely agree about wishing they'd just told the story. As I recall, the 74 version was better at that.

  2. Ah, I think I read that in English maybe in college. It sure sounds familiar. Netflix seems to have a wide variety of films that appeal to all kinds of audiences.

    1. We are enjoying the Netflix offerings. There is a wide variety, and it's easy enough to move on if we try something we don't like.

    1. I hadn't realized how many adaptations there'd been. I'll try to check out some of the others.

  4. I really need to put this book on list. I have heard tons about it but have never read it. I am listening to DR. Zhivago. Took me a bit to get all the names straight, which is harder I think when you listen, but what a descriptive story. Have you ever read it? Hugs-Erika

    1. Little Prince is a short read. I read Dr. Zhivago years ago while I was making my way through those Great Books and Books-to-Read lists. Those Russian names are a trial, aren't they?! lol The book really sweeps you along, I think. I've also seen a movie adaptation, but I don't remember much about it.
