Star Wars Concert

The Daughter is in the Memphis Symphony Chorus, and she comped me a ticket at the Cannon Center for the Star Wars Day concert.

I was in the upper balcony in the center and loved my seat.

Here's my view once the symphony and chorus were in place right before the concert was to begin:

Here are a couple of photos I took of the venue during intermission:

People of all ages gathered to celebrate May 4th

I then came home and watched the Kentucky Derby, which I never miss. This year there was more excitement than I wanted. What drama!

Afterwards, returning to the day's proper theme, I watched the original Star Wars movie in its original and proper Han-shot-first form. I'll give the movie its own post once we start a complete re-watch of the film series in preparation for the release of the final installment in December.

A full day, and lotsa fun. It kinda makes up for this dreary rain.

  1. Oh what fun this would have been. Bonus that your daughter was part of the chorus & a free ticket.

  2. I didn't know about yesterday being Star Wars Day. I'll bet the concert was great. (As an FYI, the original sound track music sounds very similar to Mars, the Bringer of War - The Planets by Gustav Holst. I have a link to that on my blog.) I think the original Star Wars movie is the best. I'm not too thrilled with the final trilogy of the series, but I'll still go to see the final movie when it comes out in December. It's been rainy and dreary where I am in CT also. We haven't had much sunshine for about a week now.

    1. I saw the original Star Wars movie in the theater -several times ;) - when it was released. I remember the long wait for the next film. I was crushingly disappointed in the prequel series, but am satisfied with these last ones. They are much truer to the universe I knew. I saw the trailer for the new one on the big screen when I saw Endgame, and tho I had seen it on my computer the larger-than-life vision was more affecting. I'd love a General Leia cosplay outfit (the one with the purple vest) to wear to the December release, but so far I'm having no luck with that.

    1. Yes! I was excited when she told me about it :) And they had great fun during the concert, with Darth Vader making an appearance and directing a few measures while the director hid from him. They took the music seriously but added flourishes appropriate for the celebration :)

    1. Every year. I forget when it started. And then there's fun arguing over whether we should observe Revenge of the 5th or Revenge of the 6th for Revenge of the Sith ;)

  5. Had to recheck on the kentucky derby after what you said-I am thinking what drama?? haha I only caught the race and then changed channels-wow that's a stunner and what a payout-I don't understand what the horse did to be disqualified-I know some horses were coming up fast to overtake him towards the end

    1. First time ever for a foul to unseat the winner. Wow! I didn't hear about it until later, as usually there's nothing to see post-race except for flowers, champagne, a beaming jockey, and proud rich folk. lol! I went ahead and started the Star Wars movie and didn't see the excitement until I saw something in my FB feed later.

  6. WOW, I missed everything yesterday, didn't I? I had NO idea the Kentucky Derby was even on and no idea about the controversy until I followed your link.

LOVED the photos you took and your great seat. So glad your daughter got you into this May 4th event. Loved the last picture, too!

  7. That must been a very cool concert. Lucky you for getting a comped seat. And even more cool that you have a daughter who sings well enough to sing with the orchestra. I think that is one concert I would love to see. Hope the 4th was with you besides the concert and you had a great day! Hugs-Erika

    1. I asked her how much I would owe her for the ticket, and she told me it was free. Sweet! Parking was 10 bucks, though lol

I was proud that she worked up the courage to audition :) So exciting that she got in.

  11. What a day! :)
I've never been one to watch the derby but that horse did cut right across in front of those two other horses in the clip. I didn't realize they had rules about that, but seems fair that they do.
I LOVED the original Star Wars. Saw it in a movie theater and people cheered and shouted and clapped. It was amazing to see it in a packed theater.
    Yup--what a day! :)

    1. I watch the Derby every year. My mother and college room-mate were big fans. It's usually exciting, but not _that_ exciting. The hats are worth seeing ;) and I do love hats.
