Lady for a Day

Lady for a Day is a 1933 pre-code Frank Capra comedy/drama about Depression-era destitute Apple Annie, whose daughter was raised in a Spanish convent not knowing who her parents were. There are some heart-breaking moments here, but it's a well-balanced film.

You can watch it online here. Here's a trailer:

The average critics rating at Rotten Tomatoes is 100%.

  1. And I wonder if this is where Capra got the storyline for his Pocketful of Miracles with Bette Davis.

    1. I haven't seen the Betty Davis film but looked it up on Wikipedia, and it does say the screenplay was based on the Lady for a Day screenplay which was in turn based on a short story. Capra got a lot of mileage out of that story, didn't he lol It reminds me of Hitchcock re-making his own films.

    1. Good morning :)

Shirley Temple is one of my film horrors. I just can't watch her childhood flicks, though I don't mind her as a teen actor.

    1. I don't usually like sweet movies, but I liked this one. Just sweet enough.

    1. I've forgotten now how I found this one. It was probably on a list I came across online. I hope you enjoy it :) My computer bookmarks have enough movies to last forever. I'll not live that long lol

  5. I fear this is not something I need to be watching right now. However, once I am feeling less angst, I might enjoy it.

    1. A bittersweet story, not usually my thing at all. I'm not even sure how I came across this one, but I've had it bookmarked for some time waiting for me to get to it. So many movies!
