Happy Epiphany!

The Adoration of the Magi (1441-1493):

by Jacopo del Sellaio tempera on wood panel. It was a gift to the Memphis Brooks Museum by the Kress Foundation.

Epiphany is celebrated on January 6th. The last of our Christmas decorations came down last night on Epiphany Eve, which is Twelfth Night, the night of the last of the Twelve Days of Christmas. If you thought Christmas Day was the end of the Christmas season, you need to re-think that.

  1. Ah yes today the decorations are put away - I find it hard to leave up to 12th night ... & today is also Ukrainian Christmas & I cannot wait to tuck into the perogies & cabbage rolls!

    1. I'm unfamiliar with Ukrainian Christmas. I'll have to look it up!

  2. I'm having The Brother and his family over next Sunday so I'm leaving the decorations up for another week.

    1. I've known people who left Christmas decorations up 'til Candlemas, and we used to leave up 3 King decorations and stars 'til Candlemas. By then it's Spring lol

  3. Nope, I knew today was the last day of Christmas, though no one in my family believes me. Nice painting.I will say I am glad all the Christmas hoopla doesn't normally drag on this far out though. Happy Epiphany. Hugs-Erika

  5. I also remembered Epiphany today. I did a 12 days of Christmas swap one year that was celebrated for that very reason. Not your typical 12 days, but fun. I love that painting. His art looks SO familiar to me. Happy Epiphany and end of the Christmas season.

    1. The swap sounds like a fun way to celebrate Christmas through all 12 days. I think this artist's colors are gorgeous! I feel we're lucky to have this piece here :)
