Spider the Artist

Spider the Artist is a science fiction short story by Nnedi Okorafor. You can read it online here. It begins,
My husband used to beat me. That was how I ended up out there that evening behind our house, just past the bushes, through the tall grass, in front of the pipelines. Our small house was the last in the village, practically in the forest itself. So nobody ever saw or heard him beating me.

Going out there was the best way to put space between me and him without sending him into further rage. When I went behind the house, he knew where I was and he knew I was alone. But he was too full of himself to realize I was thinking about killing myself.
The main character plays this song on her late father's guitar:

It's cold here in Memphis, but nothing like the Big Storm they're having in the northeast! I'm drinking a hot cup of coffee while I visit with the Tea Stands for Tuesday folks:

Then I'll keep an eye out on my notifications so I don't miss the press briefings. It's been so delightful to not have any insults, demeaning name-calling, or wild lies. As I watch what's going on in Myanmar, I'm so grateful the January 6 insurrection here was unsuccessful.

  4. The situation in Washington has its problems, especially in the Senate with the delays on confirming cabinet members, but as you say, it's much much better than two weeks ago!

    Nice art mug.

  6. Hey, who doesn't like Bob Marley? Yes, it is nice not hear the ugliness. Here in Oregon it is pretty bad with idiots destroying Salem and Portland. So with That, I love love love your coffee mug. Enjoy your day.

  9. Now that is the mug I should be drinking from today- and perhaps with a shot of something in my coffee!! We awoke to 27" of snow- everything is under a big white blanket-and it's still flurrying:(:( Our roads still need to get plowed so hubby will be home from work another day- much safer and I won't have to worry. Oh where is spring....
    happy T day!

And I also enjoyed the Bob Marley track. Brought back memories.
Yes, the situation in Myanmar is worrying.
    Are you having snow too?

    1. No, we so rarely get any snow at all and even then it's never much. Back in the olden days when I was young we'd get a good snow every once in a while but not any more.

  14. What a strange, haunting story.
Bob Marley's music is from another world that moves and sways.

  15. Yes nice to have adults conducting the press briefings. We watched the ceremony from the capital building last night, which I believe was called "lying in honour" quite moving. Your mug certainly is timely in use :)

  16. I’m so sorry that I’m late visiting. I felt better on Tuesday than I do today. I can only sit and read for so long, then get a headache and have to stop.

I'm a BIG fan of Bob Marley. This was an amazing song that brought back lots of memories.

I love your Munch inspired Scream mug. It's perfect for these times, too. I bet the gals back east feel the same way.

Conditions in Myanmar (or Burma if you remember that far back) are troubling. So glad our attempted coup was more successful at controlling the situation, much to Trump's displeasure. It's too bad he probably won't get convicted, but I like how some are saying he's been impeached more than he's been elected.

Thanks for sharing your coffee mug and video with us for T this week, dear.

    1. I'm sorry you're having a hard time and hope you feel better soon {hug}

The mug is a winter mug, meant for days when it's dark so never political lol It suits the times, though, right?
