Here's Cole:
Senses of Cinema closes its consideration with this:
What we have in The Blue Gardenia is a death-in-life in which we can no longer tell whether the life we live is our own or just an episode from a television series. In this context the closing shot of a LA freeway concrete overpass – a repetition of the film’s opening image – takes on an unexpected relevance and poignancy.Variety's review says it's "A stock story and handling keep The Blue Gardenia from being anything more than a regulation mystery melodrama". Time Out calls it "relatively minor but still gripping". Rotten Tomatoes has a critics consensus rating of 86%.
...Nate sure was smooth and classy!
ReplyDeleteooo, that voice :)
DeleteThis sounds good.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely. With the director and these actors involved they couldn't miss.
DeleteI was SO surprised to see Raymond Burr playing a womanizer. He has always had such a "decent" reputation on TV. This was a wonderful film, though and I enjoyed seeing it here.
ReplyDeleteBefore his Perry Mason role he was an iconic noir villain. Just think about Rear Window. He has perfect in roles like that.
DeleteNat was good, I've bookmarked this one. Thanks, Valerie
ReplyDeleteYou won't regret watching it if you like noir.
DeleteSo glad the times have changed (at least on the surface--LOL!), but this was pretty good. The quality of the actors, of course, make a difference. :)
ReplyDeleteYes, this cast is wonderful!
DeleteThey say the more things change the more they stay the same, and sometimes I believe it.
DeleteWhat a cast! I do like noir and I'm surprised I've never seen this one, though I've heard about it before. Thanks for the reminder.
ReplyDeleteThe cast really is a winner, isn't it, and you can't go wrong with that director :)
DeleteLove Nat King Cole! Happy wishes 😁. Hugs, Jo x
ReplyDeleteHis voice! I was surprised to see him here, not having expected it.
