Little Man

Little Man is a 2015 short story by Michael Cunningham. It is part of a collection of fairy tale re-imaginings. This one is inspired by Rumpelstiltskin. You can read it online here. It begins,
What if you had a child?

If you had a child, your life would be about more than getting through the various holiday rushes, and wondering exactly how insane Mrs. Witters in Accounts Payable is going to be on any given day.

    1. I've always enjoyed fairy tales, but I don't usually like modernizations of them.

  3. Interesting tale. Perhaps over time, Rumpel will learn that the one thing he wanted, no not the child, was really in his own grasp all along. You had the power in you from the beginning, my dear. You didn't need the feather to fly, Dumbo. Perhaps each half will learn to cherish the other to be whole.

  5. Interesting. What some parents want for their children is interesting. I think the fairytale mode made this tale have some extra depth!

  6. That was an interesting take on this fairy tale. I am a bit scared of them, especially the ones written by the Grimm brothers. I don't see how they were supposed to be written for children because they are SO scary.

    1. I think of fairy tales as horror stories ;) There are so many types of these tales, and not all are suitable for children.

  8. I can see why they are re-imagined as I think there's something about fairy tales that hold magic and hidden meanings 😁. Thanks for sharing! Hugs, Jo x
