Bend of the River

Coffee around the camp fire

Would you like to join me for a cuppa joe while I watch Bend of the River? It is a 1952 western film directed by Anthony Mann and starring James Stewart, Arthur Kennedy, Julie Adams, Rock Hudson, Stepin Fetchit, Harry Morgan, Jack Lambert, Howard Petrie, Royal Dano, and Frances Bavier. This is a traditional western with Stewart as a wagon train scout trying to get settlers situated with food and supplies when the miners, who can pay more for it, want the food too.

DVD Talk says, "Some critics think this is the best of the Mann/Stewart Westerns." 100% of the Rotten Tomatoes critics like it.

I'll be joining the weekly T Stands for Tuesday blogger gathering, and you'd be welcome to share a drink with us there.

ATCs

The prompt for this one was Mysterious:

and it's a mystery how this ATC came from that word.

These are specific to the United Methodist Church and the current mess it's gotten itself into:

and are meant to be a comfort during these trying and schismatic times.

A card inspired by a Kitchen/Cooking/Baking theme:

since one of the favorite foods around here is pizza.

The prompt for this card was Jeans:

and this one was Grid:

where there was supposed to be a single focal point and white space.

The prompt for this one was Cone:

You could watch that cast stand still and you'd have a good time.
Also: Methodist Cards -- I recognize them clearly!

  2. Your art is such fun. Pizza is my most favourite food - ever! But if I give it to it, my jeans will never ever fit. I chuckled yesterday because I had read your post about Dusty Springfield, not familiar with her music, but then when I got in the car, they were playing several of her songs in a row (I didn't know it was her music until the end with the announcer said so). How's that for being connected!?!

  10. Might see if Himself wants to watch A Bend in the River. Great cast. I like how you interpreted your prompts for the ATCs especially cone. Too cold here for ice cream today or the rest of the week for that matter.

  11. Don't know why but I just can't get into any Western films-even though I love Jimmy Stewart. Great collage ATCs! Love the "mystery" one.
    Happy T day!

  12. This was certainly a highly rated film. I'll try to view it later. Thanks for this offbeat drink related post for T this Tuesday.

I love your ATCs. I like how you chose to interpret "Mystery," and the "Grid" was great. Don't need many supplies to create that, but it was definitely effective.

The Methodist Church, where I was raised, actually represents our country right now. We are split over what Trump wants us to believe and what the Dems want us to believe. I can't believe that people don't understand this is the 21st century. Ancient Rome was more tolerant of LGBTQ than we are today. Off my soapbox, at least SORT OF!!

    1. I sometimes just come across them, but I also use online lists and books about movies for titles to search for. If you click on that arrow where the film video is above you can watch it here. Or here's a link to the DailyMotion page for that movie: https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2blqyi You can also watch it there. I hope you enjoy it :)

  14. I think your 1st ATC looks mysterious, D. It looks like swamp mist or a fairy place. Your religious ones are very touching. The phrase that comes to mind is, "How in God's name ...?" Very sad.

Love pizza. Love your jeans ATC - "the blues?" - lol.

You're SO good at ATCs. The small size is a challenge for me.

    Happy T-day! Eileen xx
