Dream a Little Dream

Dream a Little Dream:

sung by Cass Elliot, who died on this date in 1974 at the age of 32 of a heart attack. She was my favorite from the Mamas and the Papas.

Here's an interview from two weeks before her death:

Here's a Johnny Carson interview with her from the May before she died:

The American Bandstand interview from 1969:

  1. I liked the Mamas and the Papas. Great harmonies in their music. So sad that she died so young.

  3. It's too bad she lost her life so young. She had so much talent. I think she might have been singing many more years otherwise. Happy Sunday.

    1. I can imagine her now, still singing :( It was a loss to our musical lives.

  4. Oh, how I love this song! There have been many versions and The Mamas & The Papas is my favourite one, even better than Ella Fitzgerald who released it first. I also like the Beautiful South version ...lol 😉. I sound quite the connoisseur when it comes to this song or maybe you could call me a bit of a geek ...lol 😉. Thanks for sharing all the links, it's such a shame she passed away so young, she was an amazing talent! Happy Sunday! J 😊 x
p.s. please check out my blog next week, you'll see why then ...lol! J x

    1. We all have favorite versions of those key songs, don't we :) I like this one best, too. I'm like you, though, I like comparing the various versions. She had so much talent, and I think she was underappreciated back in the day.

I always check out your blog :) But now I'm not sure I can wait! lol

  5. Such a beautiful voice and wonderful singer. It's a shame she died so young, and even though she had taken hard drugs during her life, her death at least was not due to drugs, OR a ham sandwich. However, it just goes to show what obesity can do to longevity of life.

    1. I think her weight was the big health issue for her heart. It was a tragedy, and those interviews so close to the time of her death are so sad to watch :(

    1. They are hard to watch, aren't they, knowing how soon her death would come. I loved her voice.

  7. Oh you have made me happy and sad at the same time. I loved Mama Cass. She was my favorite of the Mamas and the Papas. Her voice is beautiful, and this was my favorite song. It is such a good composition.
How sad that she died so young. The interviews you linked mentioned that she had collapsed days before. I wonder what she died of. It says Heart attack but my medical background tells me that could mean anything....
    Thanks for sharing this memory,
    Happy T-Day,
    Lisca

    1. At the time she collapsed they said it was exhaustion. I think heart failure was the official cause of death, and I remember her weight discussed as a contributing factor. Drugs weren't involved. They just didn't have the kinds of tests then that we do now to diagnose heart problems. I remember how shocked I was when she died. :(

  8. She had a wonderful voice with the Mamas and Papas and in her very intelligent & honest interviews! You found some great ones, D. My heart heart skipped a beat when in the Mike Douglas interview she said, "I'll be 33 in September." Sniff ... Eileen

    1. Yes, she had a life ahead of her, and then she was gone. We never know what lies ahead.
