Mutiny on the Bounty

Mutiny on the Bounty is a 1935 film starring Charles Laughton as William Bligh and Clark Gable as Fletcher Christian. It's an entertaining adventure story, but is based on a novel and should in no way be confused with historically accurate information.

  1. I don't know which is my favorite of all the films of this title. This one has some cool actors, but I think it was in the 80's or maybe 90's when Anthony Perkin played captain bligh that is so far my favorite. Actually, I forget I'd seen this one. (The hubby is a nautical movie guy-his favorite film ever is the hunt for red october-have you seen it?) happy Monday. Hugs-Erika

    1. I've never seen that one. I'll keep an eye out for it. Thx!

I've seen Hunt for Red October more than once (tho it's been a while), and it's one of my younger son's favorites.

  2. Laughton turns in a superb performance. After reading the novels (Mutiny on the Bounty, Men at Sea, Pitcairn's Island), I thought Brando in the 1962 remake made a better Fletcher Christian as in the novel he was described as a bit of a fop.

    1. I'd forgotten there was a version with Brando. I need to re-watch that one! Thx for the reminder :)

  3. I've never read the book, or seen the film. Seems I hung out in the math department too much (grin).

    1. Most of my movie watching has happened after the kids were grown. I have the time and inclination, and there's so much out there! :)

  4. I saw this long ago and I believe I've seen the Brando one, too. There's an even more recent version I saw with Anthony Hopkins in it. Not sure why I have seen all of these--LOL! ;)

    1. It's not really my thing, these sea adventure films, but my husband has always been one for the old adventure films. I didn't even know there was such a recent version. So many ways of telling the story!
