is an 1889 painting by Vincent van Gogh, who died at the age of 37 on July 29, 1890. See that wine bottle? That's my connection with a beverage as I join the T Stands for Tuesday blogger gathering hosted by Bleubeard and Elizabeth.
Van Gogh lived a tragic life but left behind a body of work that delights and inspires each new generation. My favorite modern reflection on his life is actually a Doctor Who episode. It captures both the troubled state of his mind and the joy he has brought to the ages. Here's a short clip of the Doctor bringing van Gogh to a modern day gallery exhibition of his work:
It's silly, I guess, but this episode always makes me cry.
I'm not a fan of onions, but "Vincent and The Doctor" was one of the best episodes of the 11th Doctor's voyage. And the episode makes me cry, too. Happy T Day!
ReplyDeleteAgree, that was a great episode. I'm not a Van Gogh fan in particular, but he did have great talent. I wonder was it his pain that fueled the talent or the talent fueling the pain ...
ReplyDeletei know i repeat myself... always a great art piece for the t-party:)
ReplyDeleteWonderful painting! It's such a shame Van Gogh was unsuccessful during his lifetime and the moving performance portrayed in the Doctor Who episode he would be stunned and overwhelmed to see how much he is adored now as a artist 😁. Wishing you a very Happy T Tuesday! J 😊 x
ReplyDeleteA wonderful painting from Vincent. I remember that Dr Who episode. Happy PPF, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteI have always loved Van Gogh paintings along with his sad but interesting short life. Thanks for sharing and happy T day!
ReplyDeleteI don't get Dr. Who here, and for some reason, I couldn't hear the words, even though my volume was turned up all the way. I have SO many of those reproductions. I purchased them on canvas years ago and I love each of his works. The first time I saw Crows Over The Cornfields, his last painting, it moved me in ways I can't begin to describe. It was scary and weird, but now I look at it with nothing but affection. This is a great entry/painting for T day and one I have only seen once before. Thank you for sharing this with us.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could help with the sound. It works for me. Is it just this video you're having trouble with or youtube generally?
DeleteWhat a gorgeous painting! His work certainly is amazing. People with a lot of tragedy in their lives seem to make the most beautiful art. Glad you shared this.
ReplyDeleteHappy Tea Day,
Kate

Ok, I will have to watch it. A friend of mine here in the states is a fan and has all the episodes. I had never heard of it until I met her. One day we had to go to the fabric store so she could buy up all the Dr. Who fabric! What?? I am a fan of Van Gogh, though. I will watch this to see what it is all about! Thanks and Happy T Day!
ReplyDeleteI do like this episode of Dr. Who. It's too bad Van Gogh's life was so tragically short as he was so talented. This is an interesting topic for T day and I am glad you shared it with us. Hope you had a great T day. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteI have never watched Dr Who...but this brought a tear to my eye, too. :)
ReplyDeleteI cried too, D. I've never seen Dr. Who. This was beautiful and touching. Thank you for a really special T-day find.
ReplyDeleteHappy T-day! Hugs, Eileen
Oh, I love this episode!!! it makes me cry too...I am amazed at how much the actor resembles the self-portrait of Van Gogh, and indeed portrayed him with joy. It is astounding how much beautiful art Van Gogh created in his short life. thank you so much for sharing this! ♥ ♥ ♥
ReplyDeleteOh I had forgotten this episode and yes it make me cry too! I remember the first time I saw the Van Goghs close to (many years ago) and I got tears in my eyes - they have now been moved around into these rooms and you don't come across them quite so unexpectedly...still stunning though! Belated Happy T day! Chrisx
ReplyDeleteThis episode is fantastic! Happy belated T-Day for you! Hugs, Susi
