Elizabeth is right in her comment below. 42 is the ""Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything", calculated by an enormous supercomputer named Deep Thought over a period of 7.5 million years. Unfortunately, no one knows what the question is." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/42_(number)#The_Hitchhiker.27s_Guide_to_the_Galaxy
Erika, it stands for "The answer to life, the universe and everything." It has many meanings, but comes from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I think Memphis is the only city where this number is prevalent. I've never seen it anywhere else.
Toby42 and Nosey42 are local artists who include 42s in their public art. I don't know anything about the artists (or taggers or whatever the distinction between the 2 is) I think people, noticing and getting a kick out of it, sometimes add 42s to our landscape. I love finding them :)
Because this blog does not consist of a single focus topic I chose the name Divers and Sundry where "Divers" means being of many and various kinds, and "Sundry" means consisting of a haphazard assortment of different kinds.
Hmmm....I am curious what this 42 represents.
