The Guardian has the only positive review I saw.
The NYT has a negative review and calls it "a flagrantly old-fashioned, triple-hankie tear-jerker". New York Magazine says, "Autumn in New York is terrible". Empire Online gives it 1 out of 5 stars and concludes, "By the halfway mark you'll be desperate for Ryder to end her misery and yours."
BBC says it "proves unsettling thanks to the nauseating amount of glucose sentiment that infuses this predictable slice of doomed amour." Entertainment Weekly calls it "tastefully embarrassing". People opens a negative review with this: "They don’t make ’em like they used to, and Autumn in New York proves that maybe it’s time to stop trying."
Rotten Tomatoes has a critics score of 20%.
I'm not a huge Richard Gere fan so I've never seen this movie, but after your review I think I will skip it. I did order a 1 penny used copy of the mystery you mentioned yesterday and I can't wait to read it. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteI hope you like the book :)
DeleteThere's something about Richard Gere I don't like and have trouble watching him, so I'd pass on this one, too.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely missable. I don't have strong opinions on Gere, but unless you just watch anything these actors are in this is definitely not one to seek out.
DeleteI had to laugh at your take on this movie. Your take on it was far more interesting than the movie sounds. At least your comments got me laughing, which it sounds like the movie would NOT.
ReplyDeletelol, yeah, definitely not funny. Irritating when it wasn't boring, but not funny.
DeleteSounds like one to skip. I don't watch many movies so I have to weed out my list - thanks for the help on that.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking for movies that take place in the fall that aren't school-related or I'd never have come across this. I've already donated this dvd. Maybe a die-hard Gere or Ryder fan will find it lol
