Game of Mirrors is 18th in the Inspector Montalbano mystery series by Andrea Camilleri. This one was originally published in 2011 and translated into English in 2015. Do read these in order, as the characters and their relationships change. This series leans a bit towards the comic, but I get a kick out of those parts and it doesn't interfere with an appreciation of the plot.
from the back of the book:
In Game of Mirrors, Inspector Montalbano and his colleagues are stumped when two bombs explode outside empty warehouses -one of which is connected to a big-time drug dealer. Meanwhile, the alluring Liliana Lombardo is trying to seduce the Inspector over red wine and arancini. Between pesky reporters, amorous trysts, and cocaine kingpins, Montalbano feels like he's being manipulated on all fronts. That is, until the Inspector himself becomes the prime suspect in an unspeakably brutal crime.Kirkus Reviews closes with this: "Brisk, biting and cleverly plotted, Montalbano's 18th ... is both droll and suspenseful."
I've also read these:
1. The Shape of Water
2. The Terra-Cotta Dog
3. The Snack Thief
4. Voice of the Violin
5. Excursion to Tindari
6. The Smell of Night
7. Rounding the Mark
8. The Patience of the Spider
9. The Paper Moon
10. August Heat
11. The Wings of the Sphinx
12. The Track of Sand
13. The Potter's Field
14. The Age of Doubt
15. Dance of the Seagull
16. Treasure Hunt
17. Angelica's Smile
I like the Inspector and have read some but not all of the series. I'll have to check my list to see which I need to catch up on. I know I haven't read this one.
ReplyDeleteI think there are 5 more after this, only one of which has been translated yet. Our local bookseller always gets a couple of the new ones when they are released, but they don't keep many of the series in stock. I', glad they seem popular.
DeleteI'm always looking for a good mystery and this sounds like a good series. Thanks for the suggestion and info about it. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteI do get a kick out of them. Fun characters :0

ReplyDeleteEvery time you review one of these, I keep thinking it is like a TV series I saw awhile back. The inspector keeps getting into similar situations, and only cunning gets him out of them. Regardless, I like the idea of this series and hope to run across them one of these days.
I think this has been adapted for tv, but I've never seen it.
DeleteI like a murder series with some humor! Awesome! These are going on my list. I already had the author's name and now I have the books in order--whoohoo!! Thanks! Hope they have them here. :)
ReplyDeleteI hope you like them! :)
