Night at the Museum is a 2006 fantasy/comedy starring Ben Stiller, Dick Van Dyke, Mickey Rooney, and Robin Williams. We had never seen this, and The Younger Son gave it to The Husband for Father's Day. It was a funny movie with a happy ending, which is The Husband's favorite kind of movie. It won some awards.
trailer:
Empire Online gives it 2 out of 5 stars and concludes "The tagline is everything comes to life but this energetically charmless family fantasy lies there dead on screen, occasionally twitching at a funny line." Rotten Tomatoes has a critics score of 44%, but the audience rating is higher.
I actually saw this on network tv and, although I am NOT a fan of comedy, I really enjoyed it. Sorry all the ratings were so low, which often happens when it's something I like!
Sometimes I think the commercial reviewers look at movies in comparison with the classics instead of in light of their entertainment value in the moment. This movie won't make any long-term Classics-for-the-ages lists, but as a 2-hour entertainment we got a lot of enjoyment out of it.
Because this blog does not consist of a single focus topic I chose the name Divers and Sundry where "Divers" means being of many and various kinds, and "Sundry" means consisting of a haphazard assortment of different kinds.
It was better than I expected. Not that I expected much--LOL! Light fare. :)
