Jerky Turkey is a 1945 animated short film directed by Tex Avery. A "historical" film, opening with the landing of the pilgrims in 1620 7/8. The deliberate historical anachronisms are cute. The shooting of the turkey is the main plot.

The cartoonish stereotypes are stunning to see these days.

I promise NOT to eat at Joe's. This is so very clever and reminded me of the Road Runner cartoons that I'm sure were lost to the children, and probably some adults as well. This is DEFINITELY not a cartoon for kids, because they would never appreciate the symbolism. Thanks for sharing this.
ReplyDeleteSome of the old cartoons are a riot, but some haven't held up well at all. I'm always surprised at how well a lot of the Christmas ones still appeal. I'm also surprised at how few Thanksgiving-related ones there are. That seems strange to me.
DeleteCartoons were made so obviously for both adults and kids back then. In this one they made fun of just about everything thanksgiving related. Kids wouldn't even know what a sandwich sign person was these days, I don't imagine.
ReplyDeleteI see people holding up ad signs at intersections sometimes, and I think the sandwich signs made so much more sense lol
