Analects

The Analects of Confucious is an ancient Chinese book composed of a large collection of sayings and ideas attributed to the Chinese philosopher Confucius and his contemporaries, traditionally believed to have been compiled and written by Confucius's followers. It is believed to have been written between 475 BC –221 BC, and it achieved its final form between 206 BC – 220 AD. There's much wisdom there. Some of the more famous quotes:

Respect yourself and others will respect you.
Hold faithfulness and sincerity as first principles.
To be wealthy and honored in an unjust society is a disgrace.
Never give a sword to a man who can't dance.
The noble-minded are calm and steady.
Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it.
Do not impose on others what you yourself do not desire.
Study the past if you would define the future.
Forget injuries, never forget kindnesses.
Roads were made for journeys, not destinations.

  1. It sounds like a great book. FYI: Horror movie: Mary (I don't recall the year, but Gary Oldman is in it. I thought it was good.)

  5. Every quote I've ever heard from Confucius he sounds like an extremely wise man. I am surprised I have never read this, though. May have to remedy that. ;)

  8. Talk about getting behind. Wow. I have NO idea why or how, but today is catch-up day.

I have always thought Confucius knew what he was talking about. Words of wisdom, indeed.
