They Shoot Horses, Don't They?

They Shoot Horses, Don't They? is a 1969 American psychological drama film directed by Sydney Pollack, and starring Jane Fonda, Michael Sarrazin, Susannah York, Gig Young, and Red Buttons. As of 2022, it holds the record for most Oscar nominations without one for Best Picture.

Roger Ebert praises it. Rotten Tomatoes has a critics consensus score of 85% and an even higher audience score.

  4. I don't know this film at all, but it has a great cast. Jane Fonda is one amazing woman in the fact that she is still acting. It's been a long career. Happy Sunday to you Nita.

  6. I am not fond of Fonda, but I remember seeing this film on TV. I enjoyed it, even with Fonda in it. Maybe because of the ending!

  10. Goodness--was it that long ago? No wonder I don't remember the details anymore--just that it was dark and depressing. Everybody talked so highly of it and I just thought it was okay, I remember, but wondered what all the fuss was about. lol!
