Don Quixote (2000)

Don Quixote is a 2000 made-for-tv film starring John Lithgow, Bob Hoskins, and Isabella Rossellini. Peter Yates directs.

It is based on the book by Cervantes, who died on this date in 1616. You can read the book here or here if you haven't already, or have it read to you compliments of Librivox.

  1. The Don Quixote story is only musical Mr Man likes, so I'll try for this movie version; we both like John Lithgow. When I saw the director's name I first said oh no, but it's David Yates the director that we are not keen on.

  2. I need to check this out after listening to the book. I think John Lithgow would make a great Quiote.

    1. I loved the book. I've heard there's a new translation. That might help.

  5. I'm amazed I have not seen this, especially since it was made for TV, the one thing I DO watch (grin)!

    1. This was the first time I'd heard of it. We both missed it at the time.

  7. I saw this one back then. Lithgow fascinates me.
Request: do you think you can put the follow choice on your blog?

    1. What's a "follow" choice? I'm getting a notice from blogger that my "follow by email" option in my right sidebar is not going to be supported after July, so I'd be glad to put something else in its place.

    2. I think it's called followers. It's where there's a box to click follow and all the little square pictures are above it. I know--I just deleted my follow by email. :( I need to try something else. Then you can chose the blogs I follow option and all the people you clicked to follow will show up on the side when they post. At least I think that is how it works. I have picked both of those and I'll see how they work. As you can tell, my blog has basically looked the same since I first started it so I don't know much about changing stuff--LOL! Let me know if it works.

  8. Germany again. Here is what I see:
    "Video unavailable
This video contains content from NBC Universal, who has blocked it in your country on copyright grounds."
Sometimes it´s for crying out loud!

    1. It's frustrating that some things I put up get taken down from Youtube before the post even goes live and some are only viewable by some people :(

  9. This sounds great. I saw the musical in London many years ago, and enjoyed it very much. Valerie

  11. I love this story (though the Man of La Mancha movie was so disappointing -- did you know they could have hired the originals, Kiley and Diener, but they weren't "big enough names.") I'm sure I'd like this version -- what a cast.

    1. I never saw the original stage play, though I've seen several community theater productions. It used to be quite popular, but I haven't seen it offered recently.
