trailer:
USA Today says, "Radcliffe gives it his all and makes the film worth seeing". Joe Hill, who wrote the book the film is based on, praised Radcliffe's performance calling it a "wrenching, vulnerable, emotionally naked performance that isn’t like anything he’s ever done on screen before. He is such a wonderful Ig Perrish". The Hollywood Reporter calls it "A fable-like horror mystery with strong comic and romantic tendencies".
Roger Ebert closes with this:
Radcliffe, through his sheer presence and the piercing honesty of those big, blue eyes, makes this mixed-up material watchable. He’s scuzzy and tormented, drunk or hung-over most of the time, but his directness and his down-to-Earth demeanor give us something to latch onto, even though the Devil made him do it.
I'll watch.
ReplyDeleteI hope you like it :)
DeleteThe book was much better than the movie but that's just par for the course.
ReplyDeleteThat's a shame, but I agree it's the case. The book is almost always better.
Delete...I'll pass.
ReplyDeleteRadcliffe does do a good job here.
DeleteI started to watch this, but just couldn't get into it.
ReplyDeleteI have learned that I don't have to finish everything.
DeleteI got rid of Netflix. I just didn't find all that much on it I wanted to watch.
ReplyDeleteWe watch sooo much Netflix! We subscribed to watch Dark Crystal and kept it after that.
DeleteI have seen this film, and read the book, and as always, the book was better. Valerie
ReplyDeleteI agree books are almost always better. I like Joe Hill.
DeleteGlad you stuck with it and enjoyed it 😀. Hugs, Jo x
ReplyDeleteMe, too! :)
DeleteI don't have Netflix anymore and Prime says it doesn't show it in my area. I will look for it elsewhere.
ReplyDeleteI hope you can find it. It was fun seeing Radcliffe do something so different.
DeleteI haven't seen this, but I'm sure Radcliffe does a good job.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
I was impressed :)
DeleteIt must be good to see Daniel Radcliffe in a role other being Harry P. Not sure if this is my kind of movie. I tried Winchester the other afternoon on Netflix and had to turn it off. Even in midday it was scaring me! Hope you enjoyed this Halloween.
ReplyDeleteI support movies like Monsters, Inc. and The Halloween Tree, and Addams Family for folks like you and my husband who just don't care for this kind of thing. He likes the old monster movies, too.
DeleteOkay, I watched it and it was better than I expected. LOL! Was funny that people couldn't lie to him as a devil. Have you ever watched Lucifer? Same thing with him kind of. :)
ReplyDeleteI watched Lucifer 'til his mom showed up. I lost interest after that.
