Road to the Stars is a 1959 Soviet film. The special effects of life in space were groundbreaking and the film is said to have been influential in Kubrick's making of 2001: A Space Odyssey. The first 24 minutes of this 48-minute film covers the history of space flight before human exploration, and the 2nd half of the film takes us into space to a space station and a landing on the moon.

Intersting! Thank you - off to watch now!
ReplyDeleteI hope you like it. They did have ambition -as did we- and yet we never got further than walking on the moon. I see that as a missed chance :(
DeleteWhat an incredible film. The fact that we desperately seek going places we have never been before and breaking ground in a different place made this a fascinating film. One of the things that got me was as much time as I spent at the Cosmosphere last year, I had never heard of Tsiolkovsky, even though the U.S. and Russia were always at odds with each other. I really enjoyed this from that perspective and learned a lot today, as it was taught to me by a nearly deaf prof. I think from a math and physics standpoint, all children should see this film. I'm delighted you shared it.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you enjoyed it. I didn't get as much out of it, I'm sure, as someone like you who knows more about science and math :)
DeleteSounds both educational and also a science fiction treat 😁. Very interesting, thanks for the recommendation! Have a great day! J 😊
ReplyDeleteSoviet films were made for a purpose, and it amazes me that they can be so entertaining.
