trailer:
The New York Times has a negative review. Rolling Stone says, "Hell, we're all confused. If you want to enjoy even a few minutes of this sorry-ass sequel, it's best not to think."
Variety calls it "scattershot but frequently spectacular". Empire Online concludes, "As spectacular as you’d hope from a sequel to the 1996 planet-toaster, and as amusingly cheesy. You’ll enjoy yourself enough that you won’t even miss Will Smith." Time says it's boring.
Roger Ebert's site gives it 1.5 stars and says, "It’s not completely terrible... It’s just dull and hollow". Rotten Tomatoes has an aggregate score of 30%.
Actually, unlike a lot of people, I adore Jeff Goldblum and think this would be a great sequel. Had to laugh at "You’ll enjoy yourself enough that you won’t even miss Will Smith." Apparently he has priced himself out of this movie!
ReplyDeleteSmith claimed to have scheduling conflicts, so maybe they never got around to talking price ;) They did a good job of managing his absence, though.
DeleteI like the first Independence Day movie. I even thought Will Smith was quite humorous; I am not a fan over all. I cannot say that I am intrigued at all by a sequel.
ReplyDeleteYou would have to be a real fan of the first, I think, to have any interest in the sequel. We watched the first one on 7/4 for several years lol
DeleteI like Jeff Goldblum and some of the other cast members. We watched this and I hate to say it but I don't remember tons of the movie, even though it wasn't all that long ago. Guess that gives you my rating on the film, but I will say I don't remember hating it. Happy rest of your weekend. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteIt's not nearly as memorable as the 1st one. I see a lot of movies I enjoy but don't remember very well. This is one of those.
DeleteI like both Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum. I saw both these movies but I liked the first one better. They are what you expect from summer blockbusters--LOL! ;)
ReplyDeleteI agree the first one's better. There may be a 3rd, and I'll be glad to see it. Good fun :)
DeleteI can't remember if I have seen the first film - I am not interested in Science fiction genre, maybe that's the reason I haven't seen - but that's just me - I don't like Enterprise as well even though I grew up as an elementary school child with the classical television series .....
ReplyDeletewill look for the old version of Independence Day on Netflix -
Your tips and reviews are always interesting!
Happy Sunday !
I'm a big science fiction fan and was a huge fan of the original Star Trek series. None of the others have measured up imo, and I'm always on Kirk's side in the Kirk/Picard wars ;)
