by Henri Matisse, who died on November 3 in 1954 at the age of 84. I've seen this painting under several different titles, and I'm unsure which one is actually correct. Matisse is one of those artists that many people have heard of even if they don't know much about art. If you'd like to refresh your knowledge, Biography.com has a lovely page and The Art Page has highlights of key points. And here's a video on the life and works of Matisse:
My own mugs for Autumn:
aren't nearly so elegant as the cup in the painting at the top of the post, but I'm sure my coffee is just as tasty. Here, I'm drinking a local coffee Ugly Mug Hardy Passion, which is our usual early morning choice. Please join me in sharing your drink of choice with the bloggers at the T Stands For Tuesday gathering hosted by Bleubeard and Elizabeth.
Wonderful Matisse painting! He always makes such lovely bold brush strokes in his paintings and I seem to remember reading somewhere that he painted Lorette nearly 50 times over a 12-month period -
ReplyDeleteamazing 😁. Thanks for sharing Matisse with us today and for the links, I'm off to watch the video now ...lol 😉. Wishing you a very Happy T Tuesday! J 😊

ReplyDeleteI am familiar with some of Matisse's work and enjoyed the video. I also saw an interview with him on TV and found it very interesting. Thanks for sharing and happy T day!
you always come up with the best links! will check out this Video asap!
ReplyDeletehappy t-day!
When I saw the Matisse exhibit over the Summer at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, they had the title of the painting as Lorette with a Cup of Coffee. They also gave the year as 1917. Tomato. Tomahto. I love your Fall mug with the trees. Lorette's delicate cup wouldn't be substantial enough for a morning coffee. Happy T Day!
ReplyDeleteThx! We'll trust the museum staff over whatever wiki site I used. Edit coming up!
DeleteA beautiful Matisse painting. I took the time to watch the video and found it very interesting. Thank you so much for sharing. I didn't know that much about his life really.

LOVE your autumn mugs, especially the one with the trees. And it was so exciting you shared the Matisse. I saw this painting last spring in Boston. I had never seen or knew about it before that. What a perfect T day post. :) Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteI am also someone who is fond of Henri Matisse. Seems he was quite fond of Lorette and this one was part of a traveling exhibit. Sadly, it didn't make it to Wichita.
ReplyDeleteYour autumn mugs are lovely and perfect for the season. I am so glad you shared this Matisse, your Ugly Mug coffee, and your own mugs with us for T this Tuesday. You find the best art!
Wonderful T-day reference, D. If I'm not mistaken, one of the T-ladies shared a photo of this painting earlier this year. But it's well worth another look ;-)
ReplyDeleteGreat autumn-color mugs - especially the one in front.
Thank you for the well-wishes on my blog.
Happy T-day! Eileen
Yes! When I saw it I had to laugh since I have T Tuesday posts scheduled ahead for years, trying to put them close to death anniversaries lol It's a striking painting and I didn't feel like anyone would mind seeing it again. I can't remember now which blogger posted it first....

Thanks for the T-day comments. Bible art journaling is not for everyone's taste, but He made me a creative person and I have spent so much more time in His word by doing this, I don't just paint and color, but study the words too. ;)
I adore the unique art and films that you share on Tea Tuesday! Beautiful Matisse Painting, and one I've never seen before.
