Spaghetti-Western.net says, "Spencer has confessed in several interviews that he had learned everything he knew about acting from Wallach. He also seems to be in very good shape here". DVD Talk says, "The movie itself is better than average but lacks key qualities that make Leone's movies stand out: Style and wit." 10K Bullets closes with this: "This film focuses more on the characters just having a good time which is a refreshing take on the genre."

Ace High
Ace High is a 1968 Italian spaghetti western starring Eli Wallach, Terence Hill, Brock Peters, Kevin McCarthy, and Bud Spencer. The characters are interesting, and their interactions are fun to watch. I like this one, even if it is a bit long. Part of the movie takes place in Memphis.

I also have not seen this movie. I like the idea it was set in Memphis. They once made a movie near me-Once Around with Richard Dreyfus and Holly Hunter. We actually went and watched the filming, from afar, but it was interesting to see. Filming moves sooooo slow. It was drive me nuts. Have a great Thursday. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteNot many movies are shot around here, and the Memphis scene in this movie wasn't shot here. It's so unusual to find a film that's got scenes that were supposed to happen here. Especially westerns. I was so surprised to hear the character say, "Memphis"!
DeleteAs a teenager a group of us went to an all night spaghetti western marathon at the drive-in. I didn't even know what the term spaghetti western even meant at the time. I think maybe three or four of the movies were the Clint Eastwood Fist Full of Dollars series. That night cured me for life of wanting to watch spaghetti westerns--LOL! ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm the exact opposite. Seeing the Clint Eastwood spaghetti westerns made me a fan for life lol
DeleteI watched a movie several years ago, I believe it was called The Kings of Summer that was shot around Cleveland. I didn't realize until I started to recognize places from around town. So I read thru the credits and not only was it shot in Cleveland , a friends daughter also was production assistant on the film.
ReplyDeleteCool! There was a short-lived tv series named Memphis Beat that wasn't even shot in Memphis lol I liked the show, but one of the fun parts was picking out the geography they talked about that doesn't exist here.
