Cafe Ole

I've been to Cafe Ole twice recently: once with The Daughter and a group of other women when we sat outside on the patio, and another time with The Husband when we sat inside. Here's the patio:

and here's the interior:

The first time I had the fajita but didn't get a good photo. The second trip I had the quesadilla with iced tea:

You can read the menu here. I enjoyed this midtown Tex-Mex restaurant and will certainly return. There are so many restaurants in Memphis I've never been to that it's hard to resist trying them instead of coming back to ones I've enjoyed, but I'll definitely find a way to include this in the rotation.

Afterwards, we went to The Half-Shell for coffee and dessert:

I think strawberry shortcake should include actual strawberries and not just strawberry syrup. It was pretty, though. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, that's our motto. Well, that's one of our mottoes.

Please join us at the weekly T Tuesday link up, where our host Elizabeth takes us to an art museum in Wichita.

  3. Love Tex-Mex food, and there is a lot of it around here too. It has been way to hot to visit any patio areas here, so I enjoyed visiting yours.

I agree, strawberry shortcake should definitely include strawberries! Especially in the summer time when they are so available!!! It does look pretty.

    Happy T-day

  6. Great idea to have lunch in one spot and dessert in another especially in a place as rich in food establishments as I'm sure Nashville is.
I would have been VERY disappointed to not get any strawberries with my shortcake ;-(
Eating outside is such a treat well not if it's a heat index of 112 like it was yesterday here in the Wash DC area. Not fit for man or beast.
    You've made me hungry!
    Happy T Day oxo

  7. To me there's nothing more disturbing than strawberry syrup or anything strawberry that isn't directly off the vine.

I enjoyed your visit to Cafe Ole, though. It seems strange that Tex-Mex places are so popular in Memphis, but I really enjoyed seeing the menu and the prices that seem staggering to me. when I moved from MO to Wichita, I thought these prices were very, very expensive. But the more menus I see from other parts of the country, the more I realize this is not an expensive area. BTW, I love Chili Rellenos, but hate sauces places like this add over a beautiful chili.

Thanks for taking us to Cafe Ole and for dessert and coffee at the Half-Shell, which should be renamed half-baked!

    1. We have a very large Hispanic community here. Mexican food and Tex-Mex are both popular, and some of the restaurants are run by folks from other countries. Lotsa variety! :)

  8. Oh that looks like a really nice place! I would love to go there. The strawberry thingy looks delicious. I laughed at the 'nothing ventured, nothing gained'. I thought of the pounds gained actually, lol!
    Thanks for visiting,
    Happy T-Day,
    Lisca

  10. Haven't had Tex - Mex food for ages - probably because it doesn't seem so popular here now! The school staff used to go somewhere nearby when I was teaching.Totally agree about having real strawberries instead of syrup ! Chrisx

  14. The food looks delicious - except for the shortcake lacking real strawberries. Isn't it hard to keep trying new places when you know some of those you already visited are so good? There are some I just want to go back to. The only solution is to go out to eat more often, LOL!
