The Businessman and the Daffodils

This sculpture -The Businessman, by Lon Anthony ca. 1975- is new in the Memphis Botanic Gardens sculpture garden. At least I don't remember seeing it before. Anthony also did the sculptures in front of Theatre Memphis.

This one is also one I didn't remember seeing before:

We walked around the building and past these flowers:

on our way to see the daffodils:

And here's a picture The Daughter took of me taking the daffodil photos:

We saw these on the way back to the building:

It was such a beautiful, sunny Spring day with a high in the lower 70sF; and it's a joy to welcome the change in the season! After we got home we had a treat on the patio:

These cookies are nothing special -just cheap grocery store items- and the tea is Bigelow Lemon Lift. I can't tell you how happy I am to finally be able to sit outside, enjoy the sunshine, and not shiver with the cold.

You can see what other folks are sharing on this T(ea) Tuesday at the link gathering at Bleubeard and Elizabeth's blog.

  1. I just bought some hyacinths at the local nursery. I was glad I didn't plant them outside the day I got them, or they would have been beaten to death by the hail. They smell SO wonderful, and I can only imagine what an entire bed must have smelled like. Your botanical gardens are SO much nicer than ours. Ours is very small and in the middle of the city.

Those sculptures are gorgeous, and the daffodils are beautiful. I was telling Carol that I have six in my yard that were here when I bought the house. I learned from her there are colors other than yellow. Never knew that before.

Thanks for sharing your cookies and tea with us in that stunning mug for T this Tuesday, dear friend. Sorry I've not kept up with you as often as I'd like, but that AB I'm working on has taken over my life!

  3. We are still awaiting those signs of Spring here up North of you, so it was nice to see these beautiful plots of flowers and flowering trees. I liked the purple sculpture, too!

  4. Oh spring is really popping where you are and it's looking fabulous.
Those blue grape hyacinths are a picture and so many lovely daffs too!
Sculpture outside is something I enjoy very much ...inside too of course but there is something about it being outside as the seasons change.
That is a really pretty Bluejay cup you have there (I am such a fan of BLUE)
    Happy T Day

  9. Looks like it was a beautiful day for a walk. We need a few more weeks here before we'll see the spring flowers. I have seen some trees with the beginnings of buds on them. Spring is coming!!
    Happy T day!

    1. Yes, grape hyacinths! They have the biggest bed of them I've ever seen, though you see a lot of them around here. They are popular. :)

  14. My hometown was surrounded by wild hills, so I had never been much of a garden person before, somehow preferring unkempt woods and undergrowth a lot more. But lately, I've come to enjoy the organized serenity of gardens. The blue flowers look divine, what are they? I also love the second sculpture, it is so pretty and geometrical. The city I might soon be moving to is locally called 'the garden city of India,' something to look forward to!

    1. Those are grape hyacinths. They are early bloomers, and the bees _love_ them http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muscari . "The garden city of India" sounds like something I'd love!

  15. Oh! I want spring too! Daffodils... Here it is snowing and has been snowing for days; ankle-deep, slushy April snow... At least I can have a cup of tea! :-D

    1. We sometimes get daffodils through the snow. Of course, we never get much snow. We drink coffee and hot tea year 'round. :)
