Robots

The Daughter had seen this film and guaranteed The Husband would love it, so I bought it for Father's Day. The Husband picked Robots for our evening entertainment and was definitely entertained. This 2005 animated movie is filled with star voices. We all thought it was fun.

Moria says,
Robots is really quite an appealing film. It is made with an enormous degree of visual inventivity, good-natured and intelligent humour and succeeds in winning on just about every single count.

Roger Ebert likes it. Entertainment Weekly likes some of it.

"Robots" could've been a lot better then what it ultimately was. Granted, I have a soft-spot for robotic fiction - Partially because of all the creativity that must ultimately go into such a story.

The plot was very pedestrian in my opinion. Although you can't argue with the morale of the story ("If it ain't broke, don't fix it"), it's delivery left a lot to be desired. A little of Robin Williams in his usual manic mode goes a long way & there's A LOT of Robin Williams in this film.

I would've enjoyed seeing more of how the robots lived, their daily routine... I would've enjoyed seeing more logical robots - These robots were more of the "arms move simply because they can" which is fine for G-rated fare but it would've been nicer to have seen more practically-built robots & how they might interact with the world.

For a G-rated "kick in the groin" kind of CGI comedy, it was OK. However, WALL-E absolutely shames this movie all the way to the bargain bin.

    Amen on both counts.

I read somewhere that the robots serve the same purpose in this film as the fish do in Finding Nemo. We don't expect the robots to act like robots in the one any more than we expect the fish to act like fish in the other.
