Quatermass and the Pit is a compelling example of how an innovative story, strong acting, and powerful directing can obviate the need for spectacle. After all, science fiction was invented to challenge the mind, not the eye.

Quatermass and the Pit is crying out for a remake. Kneale was ahead of many other sci-fi writers.
ReplyDeleteHe created a teleplay set in the far future for the BBC in 196-something called Year Of The Sex Olympics, which basically heralded the TVs lust for reality shows.
