  1. ...Christmas and Charles Dickens have gone hand in hand for years.

    1. Most people don't realize that other authors wrote Christmas ghost stories, too.

  3. I would like to see this in person. Many many years ago I went to London and was walking towards the British Museum and saw a sign for the Charles Dickens house. I wanted to go and started following the signs. Then the signs disappeared, so I never made it there. Now I could have used my phone's GPS. I guess it wasn't meant to be. Happy Saturday!

  4. How very interesting! I love seeing places the way they were, or as best as can be replicated, from various time periods--whether famous or not--rich or poor. My favorites are the ones that have the period actors there! This was also educational. I didn't realize he had ten children or that he and his wife had split up. I'll have to follow this site for a while and see what else they have to offer. Thanks. :)

And such an interesting video! In Australia we had minced pies for Christmas from our hosts!

    1. Mother always made a mincemeat pie for Christmas. I'm trying to figure out how to make individual ones.

  7. Well, you KNOW I have to watch this one! Thanks -- I'd never have found it otherwise.

  8. How fascinating. I was drawn to the blue and white dishes.

My grandmother made mincemeat and suet pudding pies at Christmas. She also made a rum fruitcake that tastes NOTHING like the crap they sell in the stores. She always started the day after Thanksgiving. She made the cake, wrapped it in rum cheesecloth and rotated it every few days. It was to die for!

    1. Mother made mincemeat pie but didn't make the mincemeat from scratch. I've never had a homemade fruitcake. I actually like the "crap" they sell in the stores lol as long as it's heavy and fruity and not mostly cake.

    2. I hate citronella and those are the crappy ones. Candied fruit is OK, just not that horrible citronella.

    3. Candied fruit and nuts :) That's what I like.
