Warning: there's a scene in which Astaire dances in black face about an hour and fifteen minutes in. It lasts about 5 minutes.
The New York Times has a positive review. Slant Magazine gives it 4 out of 4 stars and calls it "the best of the Fred Astaire/Ginger Rogers movies".
FilmSite.org has background information. Roger Ebert considers it a Great Movie. Rotten Tomatoes has a critics score of 100%.
I'm off to watch it now. I remember reading a review of that, which some called racist and in poor taste, but I've never seen the film.
ReplyDeleteThat one blackface scene is a problem, but it can be skimmed over in a video. I hope you like it.
DeleteSuch a great movie! I love to watch musicals and this one is a fun, I don't think you can go wrong with a bit of Fred & Ginger ...lol 😉. Have a wonderful week! J 😊 x

There's truly nothing like them, is there :)
DeleteSaw this years ago and will probably watch it again. Could use some escapist fare. ;) Glad you're feeling better.
ReplyDeleteI hadn't seen this one before. Such pretty fluff :) I love to watch them dance together.
DeleteAlthough I haven't watched any old Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire films for years- I always enjoyed them. How couldn't you? Hope it will be a good day. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteThey are so perfectly matched, aren't they!
