The Newspaper (1960):
by Paul Wonner, who died on April 23, 2008, the day before what would have been his 88th birthday. The Smithsonian has a page with a short biography and some examples of his work. Artnet has some photos of his work, including nudes and still-life paintings.
I don't read a paper copy of a newspaper any more. The state of our local paper is a sad, sad tale, so I get my local news from other sources online and in print. The morning newspaper of my childhood seems to have been replaced by my morning internet perusal. I still drink coffee with it, though, so some things never change.
Join me at Bleubeard and Elizabeth's weekly T Stands for Tuesday blogger gathering, and we can ignore each while we drink our coffee and pore over our phones. Wait, no, that's not what I meant. I meant join us while we share what we're up to over a social cuppa. Yes, that's it!

A new to me expressionist! Thank you for sharing! I get all I need including all the horror news just via internet. The only paper newspapers I read are the local one's that I get for free. Happy T-Day! Hugs, Susi
ReplyDeleteI think papers are becoming a thing of the past. We don't even have a local one delivered. It's a lovely painting though :-)
ReplyDeleteWe no longer get the daily paper either, just a local news one that comes once a week. And again, such an appropriate painting for this Tuesday's topic:) Happy T day!
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful painting! I love the blocks of colour and he used his brush strokes to add texture and detail - amazing 😀. Wishing you a happy T Tuesday! J 😊 x
ReplyDeleteanother new to me artist-thanks
ReplyDeleteI remember as a kid growing up we always got the paper-and the sunday issue was the best ever with the comics and all the sale flyers. we had tried the local paper here just to get to know the area better-but it was horrible and very expensive-I do the same now and read online too when I want the local news
happy t day
OH! I love this artist. New to me, but still great. My neighbor Sally still gets the daily newspaper and I recycle them to my lasagna garden. She takes her paper with her everywhere we go and reads whenever she has to wait for anything. ME? I take photos of my surroundings, and prefer to avoid the news altogether, since it is mostly too depressing. I will join you for a cup of coffee, and since I still don't own a cell phone, I'll take a few photos as we drink and share stories of our day.
ReplyDeleteI'm delighted you shared this artist and your thoughts on newspapers with us for T this Tuesday, dear.
I haven't read a newspaper in decades. I get my news from television, radio, or online sources. Yup, Internet first thing in the morning with a cup of tea. Welcome to the 21st century. Happy T Day
ReplyDeletemust check out this Artist - i love this painting, and he is new to me. concerning newspaper... we are at changing to digital from next month on, but i want to hold my paper in the Hands at the Weekend:)

We still have papers in my area because many people don't have internet access. Do you remember how much the ink stinks? I'm sure it's not healthy to inhale.
ReplyDeleteHappy T-day, D! Hugs, Eileen
A wonderful impasto style...which looks simple, but I'm pretty sure it isn't! (wink & grin!) love the colors in this painting...really captures the sunshine and morning coffee/tea time. Happy T day! now off to check out your links! ;)
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful painting, I didn't know that painter either.
ReplyDeleteWe stopped daily papers years ago, hubby gets his on line, like many folk do these days.
Happy T day wishes.
Yvonne xx
Like most of the others, I didn't know this artist, but the painting is great. Love the colours.
ReplyDeleteSad that the morning newspaper is no more. I used to deliver the paper when I was a girl. It was a source of income for children in those days. We had heavy bags on our bikes and did paper round before going to school. Dad used to help us out on Saturdays as the weekend papers were heavier. I never read the morning paper myself as an adult because my job started very early so I never got to read the paper before going to work. Now I read the news online. I even get the Spanish newspaper El Pais in English once a week, so that I know what is going on in this country too.
Happy T-Day,
Lisca
Haha! What if we use our phones to read your post? Beautiful painting. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHappy Tea Day,
Kate

ReplyDeleteWe still have two local weekly printed newspapers filled with village & county life & happenings. For the "city" news (not Toronto as we have a city closer to us) I read online as they don't print any more. For wider news such as province, national & world, I watch TV news. Again thanks for bringing art into my view - you certainly are broadening my horizons!
