The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (films)

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is a 2009 Swedish thriller based on the Stieg Larsson book by the same name. I have been wanting to see this film and the 2011 American remake with Daniel Craig for some time, and we watched them both recently. They are both true enough to the book to suit me. Each differs from the source book in different ways, but the 2 movies are remarkably similar. To be honest, I'd be hard-pressed to choose between them, and I wonder why they remade the original.

Both films were well-received.

  1. I saw the Swedish version Of the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and really enjoyed it when the U.S version came out I just didn't want to see different actors in the roles. Sometimes actors so become the characters when I watch a movie that placing someone else in that role wouldn't let me get lost in the movie. For me the Swedish actress who played Lisbeth has to be the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

    1. it seemed obvious to me that casting for the american movie was based on the original movie and not strictly on the book. it was like they looked for actors as close as possible to the original ones. i was worried daniel craig wouldn't be right for it, but they did a fine job casting, i thought.

the ending of the american film was much more true to the book. the swedish one is more faithful to the book in other places. both are worth seeing just to note where the 2 differ.
