Calvary Episcopal Church here in Memphis has an annual preaching series and lunch during Lent. I haven't been to the worship services very many times, but the Waffle Shop is a treat I've indulged in several times over the years. I met a cousin there a couple of days ago and we enjoyed visiting while we ate. I forgot to get a photo, but I had the chicken salad. It was delicious, as always.
While I was downtown I walked down to the Mississippi River to see how high the water was. It has risen enough to crack the top 10 list of high water marks, though it's still 9 feet lower than the flooding we got in 2011.
Green grass and blue skies, you are making me swoon. OK I am jealous. I have never been to a waffle house as we don't have them up here-at least yet. I shall have to try one someday when I get the chance. Enjoy your weather. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteThis is operated out of the church kitchen and only held during Lent. It has a wonderful reputation, and it's always crowded. Come Easter, it'll be gone until next year.
DeleteInteresting fact: Wichita has had LESS THAN 1/2 inch of rain since October 1, 2017 until March 8, 2018 (yesterday). Saw it on the news last night.
ReplyDeleteGlad the rain has stopped in Memphis and glad you had a lent outing with your cousin.
Wow! That's dry! We're expecting more rain over the week-end lol
DeleteSuch an interesting way to raise money & awareness. I like waffles but such a lot of work to make, well really it's the clean up that is the work ... Fish Pudding sounds interesting.
ReplyDeleteThey are supporting women who are trafficking victims. They do a lot of good work, and the waffle shop is a Memphis institution. They're still using some of the same recipes they used when they began this tradition in 1928.
DeleteSounds like a great day out!
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend!
