Eight O'Clock Coffee

We're still looking for a coffee we like as well as Peet's, and we're having limited success. This time we are half-way through a bag of Eight O'Clock Dark Italian Roast. Consumer Reports likes it in their taste test, but we aren't feelin' the love. It's an OK coffee, but it isn't something we would ever choose over Peet's. What we want is just a bit of variety -a choice among equals. This isn't it. That's a shame, because it's right there on the shelf at the grocery store. Don't get me wrong; there's absolutely nothing wrong with this coffee. It's just that we don't like it nearly as much as we like Peet's, and at this point in our coffee-drinking lives, that just won't do. Gettin' picky in our old age? Maybe.

The cup has been around so long I've forgotten where I got it. It has Hartstone USA on the bottom. It seems the pattern has been discontinued, and a quick search doesn't get me anywhere towards finding the pattern name. I wish I could remember where I got it -I do remember I bought it new- because that might help narrow the search results. I use this mug in the Summertime. It's a nice weight, it's thick enough to keep coffee warm while I drink a cup, it has a comfortable handle, I like the decoration on it, it's a good size... Perfect!

  1. Your search goes on. I always laugh because I've never found anything to replace Peet's. If you do then I'll surely try it. I like you cup, I like a cup that keeps my coffee warm.

    1. i like a thick-walled cup best. i can keep coffee warmed up from the pot, but i like it better when it stays warm.

  2. I keep reading about Peet's. I've never heard of it. Keep looking, though, and I'll give up my Millstone or Fair Trade coffee as long as I can grind it myself (grin).

And thanks for joining me again today. When you first joined me for tea you asked if someone hosted. When I told you no, it motivated me to do something about it. Now we can all link and I have you to thank (or blame as the case may be) for that comment that stuck with me several months ago.

  3. I'm not sure I'd like your coffee, it might be a bit stong, I asked the StarBucks guy to make it weaker, when we were over there and he looked at me at tho I was a bit odd!

  4. 8 o'clock is too strong for me. I'm a "make my coffee taste like hot ice cream" type. Lots of sugar and cream and a flavor for me. Other than that I drink tea more often than coffee.
Thank you for putting the bug in Elizabeth's ear that motivated her to start this Tuesday gathering.

    1. i drink coffee and tea, but i'm a morning coffee person. i drink both black, without mild or sugar, tho i've been known to put lemon in tea.

i love getting credit for elizabeth deciding to be the formal host. i think that's a great contribution to my internet life. :) and i'm not really kidding there lol

    1. peets is fairly new to me, but we are already solid fans, measuring every coffee against that standard.

thx! :) i'm not sure why i decided to make that cup a summertime cup, but the pattern gives me a summer vibe.

  7. I'm a coffee drinker, straight up black in the mornings. Now in the early afternoons I might go for a sweet, creamy coffee, but I make my own with flavored sugar free syrups and good heavy cream......so much cheaper that the special coffee shops, and I can have second cup without leaving the house....LOL

  10. I've never heard of that brand. It's always a bummer when you buy something that was highly recommended and then you think meh...or even worse...you hate it.
    Happy Tuesday!

    1. i can pass any coffees i don't like on to my older 2 kids, who are also avid coffee drinkers, but few are the coffees we find undrinkable. mostly we continue to enjoy them while thinking, "such a shame it's not [stronger/more robust/heartier/whatever]" lol
