Darkman is a 1990 Sam Raimi film starring Liam Nissan, Frances McDormand and Larry Drake. Raimi made up a superhero, and it turned out quite well. I enjoyed this.
trailer:
Moria calls it "fascinating but flawed". Empire Online concludes with this: "Certainly not Raimi at his best, but some knowing genre nods and an array of great effects make up much of the deficit." EW gives it a B says it's "a thrillingly demented pop spectacular". Rotten Tomatoes has a critics score of 79%.

This was the first movie I noticed the composer Elfman I think his first name is Danny. It seems like Elfman composes the soundtracks for an awful lot of movies.
ReplyDeletehe's recognizable any time we hear him, and i'm not sure that's a good thing. we are getting a bit tired of the tim burton/danny elfman bromance. i think nightmare before christmas is my favorite of his scores, probably because it has such fun lyrics: "Kidnap the Sandy Claws, beat him with a stick, Lock him up for ninety years, see what makes him tick. Kidnap the Sandy Claws, chop him into bits. Mr. Oogie Boogie is sure to get his kicks. Kidnap the Sandy Claws, see what we will see. Lock him in a cage and then, throw away the key".
DeleteI've never heard of this movie, but I HAVE heard of Sam Raimi.
ReplyDeletei haven't seen any of his recent films, and i didn't like spider man. he's not a draw for me.
DeleteWow! I haven't heard of this and that surprises me.
ReplyDeleteit had a sequel or 2 that went straight to dvd. i don't think this film made much of a splash. i heard bruce campbell was originally projected to play the lead, and i think he might've been better suited to the role
