DIY Water Feature
I took a large plant saucer, propped it up on one side and placed the hose so it would drip just enough to stir the water and replace water loss due to evaporation but not so much that it would overflow. I did it to attract birds, and we've had mostly sparrows take an interest.
What's been really fun is the chipmunks. I'm not a fan of the chipmunks, because I think they are undermining the structural integrity of our patio, but they are so cute! They put their little front paws up on the edge and stretch out their little necks to drink the water. Ya gotta find your entertainment where you can, folks!

DeleteYou can't beat it for a quick DIY project. Had to laugh at the chipmunks because I've never seen one in real life. We have squirrels here that take over the bird feeders.
ReplyDeletechipmunks around here outnumber the squirrels, although most people don't see them because they are shy and have underground homes. we have some that nest under the patio, and we see them running back and forth across the patio all the time.
DeleteI like your water feature, we always keep water out for the birds. The jays and woodpeckers in the mountains love to take a bath, splashing water everywhere.

that's what i expected. i have a birdbath that birds splash around in -when there's water in it. in this, the birds haven't actually gotten _in_ the water. they just drink from it. and i haven't had water in the birdbath at all since i set this new thing up. i can't figure it out. the birds take dust baths on the patio but won't take a water bath in this. i've tried stopping the dripping water, but they still won't get in it.
