Blooming Lilies
I went to the Memphis Botanic Gardens yesterday afternoon to see what lilies were blooming. I saw some -in fact, I saw a lot- but there are a lot not yet in bloom. I'll have to keep an eye on them. Here are the lilies I did see:
and my favorite, the common field lily:
Of course, there are plenty of other plants in bloom throughout the gardens:
They have a specific area called the Nature Photography Garden, but I've only strolled through it. I need to spend some time there.

So gorgeous! Lilies are like royalty among flowers, I think.
ReplyDeletei love lilies, but i've always loved the plain orange ones best. i guess because we had so many of them in the yard when i was growing up. they would spread so and were so easy to keep. i'm not having much luck with them on my patio now, though.
DeleteThe field lilies look like what we would call tiger Iillies.
ReplyDeletewhat we call a tiger lily has spots like this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lilium_superbum . the lily i see more often growing by the roadside is an orange daylily like these: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hemerocallis_fulva . mother loved daylilies and had several different colors. she used to go to shows and buy them. she also had tiger lilies and surprise lilies. the surprise lilies were light pink: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lycoris_squamigera
