an Allan Sherman song parody of Makin' Whoopee.
Lyrics excerpt:
Each weekday morning at 10:15I never get coffee from vending machines these days. Are there still coffee vending machines around? I can't remember the last time I saw one, much less one that had a tea option. (Vending machine hot tea was dreadful!) Now coffee seems readily available in carafes on hot plates, and the vending machines have soft drinks and bottled water. And tea? Never!
I see my favorite vending machine
It stands there waitin' and percolatin'
Just makin' coffee
...
These days I hear more talk of the best way to make coffee so that the flavor is enhanced, the best quality coffee, the best machine for making coffee or grinding beans, etc. And with tea, I hear talk of the highest quality leaf and the best blends. Sometimes I think the coffee and tea of my youth is lost. If vending machine coffee/tea is an example of what was typical back in the day, that may be a blessing!
Enjoy your beverage of choice (whether from a vending machine or not) with the tea-partiers hosted by Bleubeard and Elizabeth.
Fun take off on the original song. Can't recall the last time I used a vending machine. Everywhere I look these days people are using the individual pod kind of thing. The coffee aisle at the grocery store is full of them. Seems like a lot of waste to me with all that packaging to throw away.
ReplyDeleteDarla
i've seen reusable pods you can put your own coffee in! but i just do pour-over coffee when i just want a cup or 2.
DeleteFun parody!
ReplyDeleteWe do have lots of choices...
Happy T Day to ya
oxo
i get a kick out of song parodies. he sounds like he's takin' his coffee seriously ;)
DeleteThanks for sharing that fun song! I really don't know if there are coffee vending machines anymore. So many seem to have those coffee makers like Keurig with the individual pods. Personally I refuse to buy into it:) Happy T day!
ReplyDeletei'm also passing on the keurig phase. there's only so much room on the counter top, after all lol
DeleteYes--it was horrible coffee! I do not miss it, but I remember it well. LOL!
ReplyDeleteHappy T-Day! :)
bad, wasn't it? but that's all there was, so we suffered through it lol
DeleteI can't recall ever using a coffee vending machine...I've seen them in older shows. I do remember using a hot cocoa machine at a high end furniture store when I was a kid. I'd burn my tongue every time. ;)
ReplyDeleteHappy Tuesday!
i remember coffee vending machines mainly from visiting hospitals where they were very popular. they had tea and hot chocolate, too, but i had completely forgotten the hot chocolate. thx!
DeleteI haven't seen a coffee vending machine in years, had forgotten all about them. They had scalding hot coffee!!!! THAT I do remember.
ReplyDeleteHappy T-day
yes, i'd forgotten about that, too. scalding!
DeleteFunny you should post this today. Yesterday my husband and I tried a new (to us) movie theater, and it had a retro (vintage?) coffee machine in the lobby. We had already gotten drinks before we noticed it, but I want to try it next time. It brings back fond memories of the coffee vending machine at my old workplace.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, the movie we saw was Muppets Most Wanted. Lots of retro goodness there, too. Two thumbs up! :)
now that's cool to have one of the old vending machines in a retro theater :) i haven't seen the new muppet movie yet. my favorites are muppet christmas carol & muppet treasure island.
DeleteCute video/song :) my drink is coffee today, on tea day of all things :) have a good one
ReplyDeletei do tend to have coffee in the mornings -even on tuesdays lol
Deleteoh how delightful! love the song...and the step back in time!
ReplyDeleteglad you liked it :)
DeleteTea and coffee is definitely not what it used to be. The poor husband shuns coffee and prefers his tea black and strong with milk; he likes to finish his lunch with a cup. He has totally given up asking for it in restaurants after continually being offered all kinds of weird varieties. The last straw was a cheerful waitress who came with rooibos with blueberry muffin taste! His collegues said the expression on his face was priceless...
ReplyDeleteit is odd what they do to coffee these days. finding a cup of "just plain coffee" is hard to do. tea is often not tea at all, but some herbal concoction masquerading lol blueberry-flavored rooibus? not really tea! ;)
DeleteGreat memories. I haven't seen a vending machine for so many years. Happy T day
ReplyDeleteglad it brought back fond memories :)
DeleteHappy (day late) T-Day!
ReplyDeleteOMG that is so cute! But yeah there are coffee vending machines around still. But I've only gotten a hot chocolate once and that was enough. Could only have 2 sips because it was way too sweet.
i am going to keep my eyes open. i'll bet there are still some around here.
DeleteJust got back and had to stop by to see what you had cooked up for T. I actually remember those old vending machines, although, being a coffee snob (sorry, but I really AM), I would never have spent my money of something that tasted more like cardboard than coffee. Give me French Roast, and certainly don't give me something that tastes like Maxwell House!
ReplyDeleteThere is a Starbucks on every corner and in every hospital nowadays, so I think many vending machines have gone the way of the Edsel. Had to think awhile to find an analogy for that one!
Thanks for sharing this fun, fun video and your take on vending machines for T. Love it.
you're right about the starbucks shops being in every hospital. tea and coffee available without a vending machine in sight lol
Deletei'm glad you got a kick out of the video :)
