How cozy! Watching a Christmas movie while drinking a hot cuppa. Just when I think I've seen all the Christmas movies evah, I get introduced to one I've never seen. The Husband loves funny movies with happy endings, and The Daughter told me to get Love Actually for him. I find some of the plot-lines depressing and others beyond unbelievable. The Rickman/Thompson marriage was incredibly sad.
It has a large cast of well-known actors: Hugh Grant, Liam Neeson, Colin Firth, Laura Linney, Emma Thompson, Alan Rickman, Keira Knightley, Martine McCutcheon, Bill Nighy, and Rowan Atkinson.
trailer:
and if you don't mind spoilers, the Honest Trailer people sum it up pretty fairly:
I do realize most folks love this movie and think it's cute, but it's not making it onto my Actually Love holiday watch list.
The Telegraph gives it 1 out of 5 stars and opens with this: "Love? Actually, no. More like disappointment, and, at times, hatred." Salon.com calls it "the worst Christmas movie ever". Rolling Stone gives it 2 out of 4 stars, but I'm not sure what the 2 stars are for as there's precious little positive in the review. The Atlantic calls it "the least romantic film of all time". Roger Ebert gave it 3 1/2 out of 4 stars. Rotten Tomatoes has a critics score of 63% and an audience rating of 73%.

I'll take a pass on the movie but that beautiful cup and saucer can come live at my house anytime.

We agree on each point ;)
DeleteBeautiful cup and saucer for the Holidays.
ReplyDeleteI like to watch the old classic Christmas movies.
Thanks for the earlier T visit.
I watched the Honest Spoiler, because I thought it was better than the trailer would have been. I am not a fan of romantic chick flicks, anyway, so this would probably depress me. I do, however, adore that gorgeous cup and saucer. It makes me want Christmas to be here, even if I'm not ready for it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the flick trailers and your gorgeous Christmas cup with us for T this Tuesday, dear.
I watched this in german "Tatsächlich Liebe" last Christmas with my daughter at TV ..I liked this film!
ReplyDeleteAnd your cup with saucer is simply amazing!
Happy T-DAY

Love the Honest Trailer! The movie never worked for me, it always seemed to have too much going on in it.
ReplyDeleteGreat trailer...I think I will skip the movie, actually. :) love the holly cup and saucer by the way...happy T day!
ReplyDeleteNot fond of the movie either. The tea cup n sauce are beauties. Best leave at your house with weak hands I'd break it. I'll take my tea in thermal mug to be safe. Happy T day! Nan & the Girls
ReplyDeleteI think I only liked Bill Nighy in that film. But what can that man do wrong? That film is on television here every Christmas; I think it has become a tradition, but we have only seen it once.
ReplyDeleteThat cup is alltogether charming.
I agree his part struck the right note lol. I don't know what folks see in this movie.
DeleteThe cup & saucer are part of a set of 4 place settings bought years ago. They were sold everywhere as sets very cheaply. I think I remember them shelved with the Christmas decorations and not with china or kitchenware. They've got no identifying marks on them, so I have no idea who made them or if there's a name for the pattern.
Hello and happy T Day! My girls saw the movie, can't remember if they liked it. I love the cup and saucer, perfect for watching holiday shows.
ReplyDeleteI've seen it and i'm not a fan........If you like holiday movies have you seen.......'Courage Mountain' with a VERY young Charlie Sheen? I call it a holiday movie because it has a beautiful Christmas scene at the end but basically it is a Heidi and Grandfather movie. LOVE it! Hugs! deb
ReplyDeleteThanks for this suggestion :) I'm always on the lookout for something different to add to the rotation.
DeleteLovely cup and the honest trailer is funny!
ReplyDeletethanks for visiting
I saw this back when and, sadly, I agree with honest trailer (which cracked me up!). But then I am not a sappily, romantic type of girl. I expected a lot more from that cast, I guess. Happy belated T-Day! :)
ReplyDeleteLOVE that cup!! We generally watch Elf and the cartoon Christmas specials with the kids.
ReplyDeleteHappy late T day!
