The Karate Kid

The kids had never seen The Karate Kid (1984), and this afternoon seemed like a good time. Everybody liked it. It stars Ralph Macchio and Pat Morita. It is #98 on the AFI list of America's Most Inspiring Movies.

The New York Times has a mixed review. Roger Ebert calls it

one of the nice surprises of 1984 -- an exciting, sweet-tempered, heart-warming story with one of the most interesting friendships in a long time.
