The Little Mermaid
First it really must be said that the only things this movie has in common with the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale are the title and the presence of a mermaid who wants to be human. That's it. There the resemblance ends. The movie does have enjoyment value on its own merit but not for any connection with the fairy tale.
It had been so many years since I had seen Disney's The Little Mermaid that I had forgotten parts of it. What a luscious villain! Pat Carroll is perfect in this! I first knew and loved her as one of the ugly step-sisters in the Rodgers and Hammerstein Cinderella, or "Singing Cinderella" as we used to call it around here. Rene Auberjonois, better recognized by me as Odo from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine but currently active in other projects, voiced Chef Louis.
