Ugly Mug

No, not the mug. That's one of my favorite mugs! I picked it up at BoJo's antique mall before they sadly tore it down and replaced it with an eyesore.

No, I mean the coffee brand. We have found some coffee that's every bit as good as Peet's. Maybe better, since it's a locally roasted Memphis "thing". The back of the package says,
This coffee... Hails from Memphis, the Seattle of Southwestern Tennessee - Is purchased, roasted and packaged with a little something we like to call integrity - Reminds us of a time before the double mint mocha decaf skim latte ruled the Earth - Knows good looks will only get you so far - Speaks without resorting to faux European words, except faux - Understands you. Maybe too well - Works best with one or two tablespoons of ground coffee per 6 ounces of water - Is the latest bundle of joy from Ugly Mug Coffee.
Definitely worth checking out. Here in Memphis we can buy it all over town, including at Kroger. Elsewhere I'm not sure about availability, but you can order it from their website. We like the Hardy Passion blend best, but you can get one called Memphis Blend and one called Blue Suede Shoes.

This is now our go-to favorite coffee!

Bleubeard and Elizabeth host a weekly T Party at their blog, and they are quite welcoming. Go check it out.

  1. I'm not a coffee drinker, but I loved the description! Since I am a big Elvis fan I probably could be persuaded to at least sip the one called Blue Suede Shoes, LOL! Happy T Day!

  4. That mug brings back all kinds of memories: memories of coffee houses and tourist traps along the interstate. Fun.

I keep hearing about Peets from T posters, but have never seen or heard of it in my town. However, the Ugly Mug brand sounds fun, funky, and funny. They had me at "faux European." I'll check them out (thanks for the link), since I'm partial to French Roast.

Thanks for sharing your straight coffee today in your not-so-ugly mug!

  5. I love antique malls...dollar stores, not so much, but they sure are everywhere! guess I'm not much of a coffee connoisseur 'cause I haven't heard of Ugly Mug coffee, but it's a great name! I do love stuff with quirky names...and mugs that just 'feel right' in your hand...

    1. i think the family dollar company is engaged in a saturation campaign here. ugly mug coffee is fairly new and local, but growing. they've done a great job with the coffee!

  7. I'd have a really hard time giving up Peet's. That company started here in Berkeley and has produced my favorite coffee for years. If I were local - or found Ugly Mug Coffee locally - I'd certainly try Blue Suede Shoes. I like the quirky feeling of the company.
