Avatar is a 2009 James Cameron science fiction film. It stars Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang and Zoe Saldana. This is a pretty movie -visually arresting. I didn't find the plot very interesting, but it was interesting enough to tie together all that pretty.
Salon.com says, "It is a very expensive-looking, very flashy entertainment, albeit one that groans under the weight of clumsy storytelling in the second half and features some of the most godawful dialogue this side of “Attack of the Clones.”" Rolling Stone calls it "tone-deaf but thunderously exciting". Slant Magazine has some praise of the editing and cinematography, but calls it "motion-capture majesty in the service of lifeless romance and mushy-headed allegory." Slate says, "You, dear reader, want to know: Is it or is it not stupendously friggin' rad? And the answer is yes." It's listed in the latest edition of the book 1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die. Roger Ebert likes it. Rotten Tomatoes has a critics score of 83%.
